Adjunct Faculty – Medical Assisting (This is an on-site position. Candidate preference will be given to those who reside in the NRCTC service area)

New River Community and Technical College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Instructor in Medical Assisting to help prepare students for success in today’s healthcare workforce. This role is ideal for a skilled Medical Assistant who is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and making a meaningful impact in the classroom.
Position OverviewAdjunct faculty serve as educators, mentors, and collaborators, delivering high-quality instruction and supporting student success. This position includes teaching in in-person, online, Zoom, and Interactive Video Network (IVN) formats across multiple campus locations.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver engaging instruction in Medical Assisting courses
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records
- Provide timely, constructive, and supportive feedback
- Supervise and guide student learning in classroom settings
- Utilize instructional technology to support in-person and virtual learning
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and program leadership
- Participate in department meetings and college activities
- Complete course assessments and reporting requirements on time
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and uphold professional standards
- Associate’s degree in medical assisting or a closely related field
- Current Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential
- Minimum of 3 years full-time experience working as a Medical Assistant
- Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field
- Teaching experience in higher education
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR)
- Experience with online or distance learning platforms (Zoom, IVN, etc.)
- Experience teaching dual enrollment or allied health courses
- Strong technical expertise in Medical Assisting
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage and support diverse student populations
- Proficiency with instructional technology and software
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to student success and continuous improvement
- Ability to travel to multiple campus locations as needed
- Evening teaching availability may be required
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Availability to communicate with students outside of class via email or office hours
