Mentor Teacher

Job Summary
  • Complete mentor training programs provided by the Wyoming County Board of Education outside of regular instructional day
  • Schedule conference services with interns weekly (if possible)
  • Assists intern in a supervisory non-judgmental advisory capacity rather than evaluative role
  • Assists intern with instructional skills and strategies
  • Serves as a member of the intern support team
  • Keeps all interventions with and discussions regarding the intern confidential
    • Qualifications
  • Must have a current West Virginia certificate and must be employed by Wyoming County Schools as a teacher or administrator
  • Must have at least five years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Must have completed the Policy 5100 Training Module for Mentors OR hold Mentor Certification, OR hold certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)
  • Must have "Accomplished" or higher as a summative performance rating on the West Virginia Educator Evaluation forms
  • Should teach at a grade level similar to that of the beginning teacher
  • Should teach a subject similar to that of the beginning teacher
  • Should teach in the same building as the beginning teacher
