Aide - After School Program; Gauley River Elementary School

Salary/Terms

Pay Grade B, C or

D. Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm for the  school year. Paid for actual days worked. 1/7 daily rate of pay plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation. Position of employment contingent upon student enrollment.

Service

Building Principal

Evaluated annually by the building principal/immediate supervisor in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314 and NCBOE Policy 4220.

Non-Exempt

• Personnel must be or have been classified in Aide, or must pass the state prescribed exam for this position per West Virginia Code §18A-4-8e
• Criminal background check per WV Code §18-5-15c

Aide II
- Personnel referred to in the Aide I classification who have completed a training program approved by the West Virginia Board of Education (WVBE) or who hold a high school diploma, or who have received a general education development certificate. Only personnel classified in at least an Aide II class title shall be employed as an aide in any special education program.

Aide III
- Personnel referred to in the Aide I classification who holds a high school diploma or general education development certificate, and who have completed six semester hours of college credit at an institution of higher education (IHE) or are employed as an aide in a special education program and have one year's experience as an aide in special education

Aide IV
- Personnel referred to in the Aide I classification who holds a high school diploma or a general education certificate, and who has completed 18 hours of WVBE-approved college/university credit at a regularly accredited IHE or has successfully completed an in-service training program determined by the WVBE to be equivalent of three hours of college/university credit

Provides instructional and classroom support to teachers and students in a school setting. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substance which affects employee productivity, safety or judgment in the workplace will not be tolerated. Staff members serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.

Staff members have a legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

• Provide individual or small group instruction under the supervision of a teacher.
• Provide students with individual attention.
• Set up and operate equipment for instruction.
• Help the teacher prepare materials for instruction.
• Assist with escorting students to and from the bus.
• Assist identified students in transit to and from the school and residence.
• Provide library, art, music, and physical education assistance to students.
• Assist with preparing snacks for students as needed.
• Remain aware and alert of medication administered to students.
• Assist in lifting, feeding, toileting, and changing clothes of special needs students.
• Assist and supervise special needs students in a classroom setting.
• Modify materials and instructional activities, as per IEP and teacher requests for specific needs students.
• Secure students in car seats, seat belts, harness, etc., while students are being transported.
• Secure the wheelchair safely for transport.
• Carry out exercises prescribed by the physical, occupational, and/or speech therapist.
• Practice good safety habits and know basic first aid.
• Help maintain an up-to‑date classroom inventory.
