Job Summary (Why does job exist?)
The Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (IC&E) Technician reports directly to the IC&E Supervisor and supports the maintenance and operation of an 800 MW supercritical coal-fired generating station. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, calibration, repair, and proper operation of plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems including DCS, PLCs, turbine controls, switch gear, motors, analyzers, and process instrumentation. The position supports safe and reliable plant operation through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities while complying with all plant safety and environmental procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, test, repair, calibrate, and maintain plant instrumentation and electrical equipment
- Maintain and support distributed control systems (DCS), PLCs, turbine controls, and associated hardware
- Troubleshoot AC/DC motors, breakers, switches, actuators, transmitters, analyzers, and process instrumentation
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities on electrical and instrumentation systems
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, loop sheets, P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals
- Install, modify, and repair wiring, conduit, control panels, and associated electrical equipment
- Use electrical and electronic test equipment including multimeters, meggers, oscilloscopes, and process calibrators
- Perform inspections and maintenance in compliance with plant procedures and applicable electrical codes
- Support outages, startups, commissioning activities, and operational troubleshooting
- Coordinate work activities with operations, contractors, and maintenance personnel
- Maintain clean and safe work areas and comply with all plant safety and LOTO procedures
- Participate in on-call rotation and work extended hours or shift coverage as required
- Support maintenance and calibration activities associated with environmental monitoring systems as assigned
- Associate degree or technical certification in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Electronics, or related field preferred
- Equivalent industrial power plant or heavy industrial maintenance experience considered in lieu of formal education
- Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, instrumentation, process controls, motors, drives, and switch gear
- Experience troubleshooting PLC/DCS systems preferred
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and control documentation
- Knowledge of plant safety practices and Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Valid driver's license required
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical exam, including a drug alcohol test, and a background check
- Power generation or heavy industrial maintenance experience
- Experience with Emerson Ovation or similar DCS platforms
- Experience with turbine control systems
- High-voltage switching and grounding experience
- Experience supporting emissions monitoring or environmental systems
- Knowledge of PLC-based control systems in an industrial or power generation environment.

- The IC&E Technician (Level
1) will be capable of proper High Voltage grounding throughout the facility - Thorough knowledge of High Voltage in respect to coordinating/supervising a contractor work force
- Implement the facility's maintenance programs in the electrical instrument and controls areas
- Ability to stand in for supervision when required
