Plant Engineer

SUMMARY

This position provides engineering support and project management for large capital projects and cost reduction initiatives. Has a fundamental responsibility to ensure product safety and quality as it applies to all the duties listed below:

includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned.

• Manufacturing Engineering Projects (Scope, cost, justification, and timing).
• Cost Reduction: workflow optimizations to reduce pack labor, secondary packaging and freight cost analysis for Silgan plastic bottle plants in US and Canada.
• Identify and implement productivity improvements.
• Develop an infrastructure plan to achieve standardization of utilities at each production plant, i.e., compressed air, chilled water and tower water and electrical distribution.
• Provide plant engineering support as required.
• Provide engineering, PPE, or training solutions to high exposure areas based on near miss or accident report.
• Development of training, documentation for equipment and best demonstrated manufacturing methodology. Preventive Maintenance Schedules.
• Support the design, improvement, and fabrication of internally developed and purchased blow molding and auxiliary equipment.

• All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• 1-5 years material handling design, installation, and startup experience with emphasis on light weight HDPE, PVC, PP and PET parts.

• Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel and Project).
• Drawing skills: 2D CAD drawing skills for plant layouts and equipment requests. 3D modeling capability is a plus.

• Basic knowledge of industrial power distribution.
• Basic understanding of ladder logic and control systems.
• Pneumatic Control design is a plus.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (i.e., Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical) is preferred, or certificate from a four‑year college or university in a related field desired.
• Strong knowledge of injection molding processes a plus.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of all levels of employees and customers.
• Ability to retain confidential information is essential to this position.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Familiar with business financial concepts such as profit vs. margin.

• Ability to investigate and define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• This position requires exceptional judgment skills.
• The ability to prioritize activities and handle multiple tasks is essential to this position.

• The ability to work effectively in a Microsoft Windows environment (Word and Excel).
