Research Associate – Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering (26765)

Position Summary:

The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering at West Virginia University seeks a Research Associate to develop flight vehicle models, conduct simulations, and contribute to research publications and presentations.

• Develop mathematical models for flight vehicles and subsystems and integrate them into a comprehensive simulation environment.
• Execute simulation tests, analyze results, and prepare technical reports.
• Write and submit research proposals and technical documentation.
• Publish research findings and present at conferences.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
• Travel to technical meetings and conferences as required.
• Support teaching of engineering courses as needed.

• Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering (or related field).
• Experience modeling and simulating missile system dynamics, including actuators, sensors, and artificial intelligence techniques.
• Strong background and research experience in the modeling, simulation, and control of autonomous flight vehicles.
• Significant publication record in missile and autonomous vehicle modeling, simulation, and analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work in teams, and communicate results effectively.
• Experience writing progress reports and technical documentation.
• Teaching experience in undergraduate engineering courses is a plus.
