Job Description & How to Apply Below
Job Title:
Maintenance Planner
Summary:
As a Maintenance Planner, you will play a critical role in turning maintenance needs into safe, well-planned, and efficiently executed work. You won't just build schedules - you'll own your area, ensure work is truly ready to execute, and directly influence plant safety, reliability, and operational performance.
This is not a desk-only planning role. You'll be out in the field, collaborating closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and EHS to properly scope work, confirm materials availability, identify risks, and build realistic, credible schedules in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Your planning discipline and attention to detail will help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and right the first time.
You'll thrive here if you enjoy being hands-on, partnering across teams, improving preventive maintenance effectiveness, and seeing the direct impact of your planning on plant performance each day.
Responsibilities Include:
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed, executable job plans that clearly define scope, sequencing, labor, safety requirements, materials, and duration.
- Ensure work is fully ready before scheduling - parts ordered, tools staged, permits identified, and risks addressed.
- Plan and schedule corrective, preventive, and improvement work based on priority and available resources.
- Own PM planning performance within your area to ensure work is completed on time and in full.
- Maintain accurate equipment data, BOMs, and job plan libraries to strengthen long-term planning effectiveness.
- Coordinate non-stock material purchases and vendor support as needed.
- Spend structured time in the field validating job plans and observing execution.
- Partner directly with craftsmen and supervisors to gather feedback and continuously improve plan quality.
- Proactively remove planning constraints that could impact safe, efficient execution.
- Escalate readiness gaps and execution risks early to protect schedule credibility.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, EHS, Supply Chain, and external vendors to align priorities.
- Drive strong communication to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and without surprises.
- Improve PM effectiveness by reducing deferrals, improving job plan quality, and incorporating field learnings.
- Support Mechanical Integrity, MOC, and site reliability initiatives.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts that strengthen planning and scheduling discipline.
- Ensure all planned work complies with site, local, and corporate EHS standards and permit requirements.
- Support MOC and facility modification processes within your scope of responsibility.
- Maintain accurate documentation and required training within your area.
- Identify and support environmental and safety improvement opportunities.
- Develop accurate cost estimates for planned work.
- Monitor maintenance and MRO cost drivers within your area and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support cost reduction and maintenance productivity initiatives that improve plant performance.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
The following are required for the role
- Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent industrial maintenance experience.
- 5 years of experience in maintenance planning, supervision, or hands-on industrial maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance work in a dynamic production setting.
- Strong safety mindset with working knowledge of EHS requirements.
- Experience supporting or managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and ability to drive maintenance improvements.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across teams and influence execution.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience using SAP or a similar CMMS for maintenance planning and scheduling.
- Background in chemical or process manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with Mechanical Integrity standards (e.g., API 653, API 570, ASME Section VIII, B31.1).
- Experience supporting Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies (Green Belt preferred).
- Proven track record of improving maintenance planning effectiveness, execution performance, or backlog health.
