About the Role: Support the research, development and assessment of technologies that improve vessel energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions onboard seagoing vessels.

Job Role- Execute projects that evaluate maritime energy efficiency and decarbonisation technologies, and assess technical and economic feasibility relevant to MERC’s objectives.
- Analyse operational experience and ship‑generated data to derive insights on energy efficiency and maritime decarbonisation technologies.
- Support pilots and technology validation activities.
- Contribute to the development of new methods and tools for the assessment of technologies relevant to MERC’s interests.
- Prepare reports, presentations and technical documents summarising the developed insights and outcomes.
- Present project results at external meetings and conferences, where applicable.
- Remain current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to shipping decarbonisation and energy efficiency.
- Have a Naval Architecture / Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognised university. Postgraduate education from a recognised university will be a plus.
- Have relevant experience working in the marine industry including more than two years’ experience in energy efficiency technologies for existing seagoing vessels.
- Have a good understanding of ship systems, propulsion and vessel operations.
- Have competence in using ship performance software platforms and data visualisation tools. Competent use of Python will be a plus.
- Have highly effective technical writing and communication skills in the English language, and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Be adaptable and well‑organised with a practical minded approach and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Have good interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Have good collaboration skills to work with teams across collaborating organisations.
