GEI’s Ithaca, NY office is seeking a mid‑level Water Resource Engineer/Planner. Under supervision of senior staff, the candidate will support ongoing field and office‑related efforts for water resource projects including watershed modeling, stormwater modeling, coastal and shoreline modeling, hydraulic hazard analyses, dam breach analyses, and other water resource projects.
Responsibilities- Lead project tasks with a team of knowledgeable registered civil engineers and flood management professionals.
- Prepare various water resource planning documents such as Groundwater Sustainability Plans, Flood Protection Plans, Implementation Plans, Integrated Regional Water Management Plans, feasibility studies, Drought Contingency Plans, Emergency Action Plans, and other related flood and water conveyance infrastructure.
- Support clients pursuing grant funding opportunities such as US Grants, DWR‑based grant programs, and others.
- Interpret and synthesize complex water resource modeling results.
- Perform technical analysis related to flood system evaluation, floodplain‑based maintenance and operations, water supply and demand estimates and projections.
- Collaborate with other team members, including structural engineers and surveyors, to ensure design coherence.
- Assist in preparation of proposals, presentations, and proposals to clients and regulators.
- Support Project Managers by tracking budgets, client communications, and deliverables.
- B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related water resource field.
- 6+ years of professional experience in water resource engineering/planning.
- Knowledge of NYSDEC environmental regulations.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Experience with H&H analysis software such as the USACE HEC suite; experience with CAD and GIS software is a plus.
- Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel on short‑term assignments as needed.
- Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight year‑round, without restrictions.

Work environment is predominantly sedentary, with occasional standing, walking, climbing, lifting (floor to waist and above), carrying, moving objects, and pushing or pulling. The role may involve keyboard use and requires adequate vision and hearing.
