Job Summary
We are excited to offer an opportunity to supervise laboratory operations in assigned areas, overseeing personnel and day‑to‑day workflow. Sign‑On Bonus Eligible.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Cytotechnology, Histotechnology (Medical Laboratory Science) or a related field, OR Associate’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or a related field.
- Current licensure as required by the state in which services will be provided:
- West Virginia:
Licensed as Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Cytotechnologist, or Histotechnologist. - Pennsylvania, Ohio, or Maryland:
No state license requirement.
- West Virginia:
- Four (4) years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Technician, Histotechnologist, or Cytotechnologist.
- One of the following national certifications through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT):
Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Cytotechnologist (CT), or Histotechnologist (HTL).
- Assist Managers in supervising all lab areas and ensuring appropriate personnel coverage.
- Support staff orientation and participate in annual performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
- Coordinate referral of reference laboratory specimens and ensure timely receipt of results.
- Collaborate with LIS personnel and technical staff to coordinate computer downtime activities.
- Operate and supervise laboratory equipment, preparing patient specimens per SOP.
- Contribute to development and revision of SOPs and department policies.
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital and lab administrative policies and safety procedures.
- Respond to customer inquiries and oversee specimen processing and phlebotomy activities.
- Seek guidance from Medical Directors and Managers on technical issues, training, QA/QC procedures.
- Prioritize laboratory requests and manage workload for optimal patient care and efficiency.
- Participate in staff meetings, in‑services, and disseminate information to staff and clinical teams.
- Review quality control records and test results to identify analytical errors and trends.
- Ensure daily workload completeness within turnaround times and adjust workflow as needed.
- Communicate with supervisory personnel, other labs, and patient/public to resolve issues.
- Possibly supervise residents and students, as required by laboratory policies.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift or pull up to 25 pounds.
- Awareness of infection control and safety factors.
- Work in a loud, noisy environment.
- Tolerance for foul or unpleasant specimen odors.
- Competency in serving diverse patient populations:
Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. - Knowledge of medical technology and management principles.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Job Description
- Oversee the daily operation of the microbiology lab.
- Collaborate with the Lab Manager, Technical Director, and Laboratory Medical Director.
- Ensure staff compliance with testing procedures and quality assurance.
- Provide input for personnel performance evaluations.
- Assist the Technical Director with maintenance, updating of procedure manuals, and validation of new tests.
- Monitor specimen turnaround time and coordinate daily workload and staffing requirements.
- Perform duties of a microbiology technologist as needed.
- Maintain CAP compliance by reviewing checklists and implementing necessary changes.
