OverviewThe clinical nutrition coordinator assists the clinical nutrition manager and clinical supervisor/manager with daily responsibilities involving the clinical dietitians, dietetic technicians, and dietetic interns related to patient care duties. The coordinator acts as the liaison for patient‑related nutrition needs within the nutrition services department and coordinates both clinical and education resources for the food service staff to provide high‑quality care and balanced food services.
The position consists of an even split between clinical patient care duties and food services liaison duties, varying based on daily needs.
- Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Current state licensure:
West Virginia Board of Licensed Dietitians. - Experience: One (1) year of clinical experience.
- Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
- Membership to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Experience: Five (5) years of clinical nutrition experience and two (2) years in a clinical leadership role.
- Assist with development of policies and procedures for managing patient service meals.
- Assist in quality assurance monitoring and reporting for departmental performance improvement meetings; identify and participate in quality process improvements and endorse evidence‑based practices.
- Serve as a resource to all hospital staff, providing direction on nutrition needs for specific patient populations and collaborating with food service, medical, nursing, and allied health staff.
- Support the supervisor/manager in recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and competency of personnel; guide and mentor dietetic students, peers, and support staff.
- Assist with developing, revising, and implementing departmental and interdepartmental policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives; plan and coordinate nutrition services goals, objectives, and new services.
- Assist the supervisor/manager with scheduling and coordinating daily workflow; provide feedback for performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Participate in community‑focused education programs and external speaking events.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of current trends and issues in healthcare, food and clinical nutrition services, TJC standards, and healthcare informatics; provide expertise for menu planning and nutrition‑related software maintenance.
- Deliver and oversee quality nutrition care to a diverse patient population; assess and document patient nutritional status and care plans, and assume responsibilities of the clinical nutrition supervisor/manager in their absence.
- Manage staff effectively (21 clinical dietitians, 2 diet techs, and 8 dietetic interns) including evaluations, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
- Excellent communication skills; teach classes and read/write in medical records and patient unit surveys.
- Maintain up‑to‑date professional literature and create/interpet staff schedules.
- Predominantly office, classroom, or meeting room; occasional patient care areas and community speaking.
- Public speaking, professional appearance, strong organization and time‑management skills.
- Work under deadline pressure, often stressful.
- Teach patients and classes; use EPIC, Vision Room Service, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, paging, beeper, and phone.
- Delegate tasks, motivate staff, proofread documents, and manage multiple tasks with priority.
