Substance Abuse Counselor (West Virginia)

Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is $21.40 - $22.64 per hour.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)

Required: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience providing substance abuse treatment therapy and clinical services.

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree; 3–5 years experience providing substance abuse treatment therapy and clinical services; experience counseling on addictions in residential treatment; MSW, LGSW, or CAC from the West Virginia Department of Health.

Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) Provider;
Driver’s License.

Reports to: Senior Director, SUD (WV)

Expected Contributions:

Addiction Treatment Services

• Provide individual addiction counseling on a weekly basis.
• Facilitate psycho‑education addiction groups and therapeutic groups.
• Coordinate planning of and provide addiction therapeutic groups.
• Enter encounter notes in EClinical within 24 hours of service being provided.
• Develop individual treatment plans within 7 days of entry in program.
• Participate in weekly clinical supervision.
• Complete discharge within 7 days of exit from program.

Case Management:

• Provide case management for residents.
• Make referrals and link residents to resources in community.
• Assist residents in setting up health insurance.
• Coordinate care with outside agencies.
• Maintain documentation on cases.
• Assist with client transportation to medical appointments, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• In‑depth knowledge of addictions treatment.
• Knowledgeable on Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET).
• Understanding of adult learning principles.
• Organized with an attention to detail.
• Relationship building skills.
• Ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to set professional boundaries.
• Time management.
• Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
