Job DescriptionRivers Health is seeking a Patient Access Clerk primarily responsible for all clerical communications and data processing activities related to the pre-registration, quick registration, and registration of all patients of the facility. Requires a customer relation focused attitude that relates a helpful and friendly atmosphere.
- Verifies and correctly enters patient demographic and insurance data, including any insurance notification required.
- Performs clerical duties such as admission, discharges, transfers and deaths as needed.
- Completes all required forms and scanning to maintain complete.
- Answers switchboard/phone and appropriately responds to emergency alarms as required.
- Safely transports patients, supplies and specimens as needed.
- Responsible for accepting and processing payments, requisitions and department mail.
- Maintains patient privacy and respects values of individual patients and provides services accordingly.
- Provides cooperative and courteous service to patients, physicians, staff members and visitors in a timely manner with the utmost of professional behavior.
- Participates in unit meetings, statistical data gathering and quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
- Maintains tidiness of registration and waiting area. Cleans desk, counter tops, cabinets, etc. as needed.
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:High School Diploma
WORK EXPERIENCE:One year experience preferred in a provider office or health care setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESREQUIRED:
Demonstrates the ability to communicate verbally and in writing, coordinate, motivate and collaborate with others. Must be able to effectively recognize the unique needs of patients of all ages, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and geriatrics. Must be able to prioritize and delegate effectively. Must be able to judge and problem solve based on situational assessment. Must possess good inductive and deductive reasoning skills.
