Position

Rapid Care Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) – Emergency Medicine

Location

Berkeley Springs, WV.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and ATLS certification required.
  • Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred; eligible new graduates considered.
  • For Physician Assistant:
    Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree as a Physician Assistant; graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA training program;
    Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants required; licensure or eligibility for licensure by the WV Board of Medicine or WV Board of Osteopathic Medicine; BLS, ACLS, ATLS required; experience in acute care or emergency medicine preferred; eligible new graduates considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • For Nurse Practitioner: ACNP or FNP considered.
  • American Heart Association PAL certification encouraged.
  • For Physician Assistant:
    Master’s level education (Medical/Surgical) preferred; PAL certification encouraged.
Responsibilities
  • Manages comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and families in the emergency department and ambulatory setting.
  • Completes pre-procedure and integrated assessments.
  • Orders additional tests or consults as appropriate using established protocols.
  • Performs and communicates diagnostic test results.
  • Consults and communicates with ED clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.
  • Documents findings and plans in the medical record.
  • Facilitates discharge and coordinates follow-up services and appointments.
  • Develops individualized care plans, teaches, disposes referral as needed.
  • Identifies unstable/complex cases and facilitates appropriate intervention.
  • Initiates effective emergency care when necessary.
  • Coordinates follow up procedures and tests in ambulatory setting or upon admission.
  • Assists in collection of outcome measures, participates in clinical trials and research.
  • Provides education to nursing staff, hospital staff, students, patients, families, and community.
  • Participates in community programs and distribution of literature.
  • Collaborates with leaders and staff to improve patient outcomes.
  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing changes in emergency medicine practice.
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary approaches and serves as a professional role model.
  • Administers leadership for committees and task forces.
  • Documents hours and submits billing reports as appropriate.
  • Reviews and interprets emergency medicine data for quality improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Working Environment

Heavy lifting up to 40+ pounds, prolonged or irregular hours, biohazard exposure, proximity to deceased, potential electrical hazards.

  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Strong communication skills.
