Essential Functions Statement(s)- Follow guidelines per HIPAA regarding patient's PHI.
- Follow guidelines per PTCHC Policies and Procedures.
- Follow guidelines per OSHA regarding blood bourne pathogens.
- Responsible for maintaining OSHA compliance at PTCHC site including MSDS manual, Hazardous waste regulations and ensuring proper stock/use of PPE.
- Responsible for Indigent Drug Program for the assigned PTCHC Health Center following PTCHC Policy and procedure guidelines.
- Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures. This includes proper work-up of patient's chief complaint, history, and other screenings as requested by the provider.
- Reviews medications and allergies at each visit.
- A brief, descriptive history of the present complaint is to be recorded in the patient's EHR. Example: "cold symptoms x 2 days, sore throat, ear pain today, fever 102 degrees last night". Obtains complete medical and social history.
- Interview patients, measure vital signs, such as pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height and record information in patient's EHR.
- Provide basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations. Administer injections and medications, interprets Provider's instructions to patients, assists with emergency and minor surgery, and performs related tasks as directed. Documents any medication administration, treatments, advice given in the patient's EHR. Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patient's conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
Completes tasks daily as assigned by provider including but not limited to patient notification of lab results, medication, refills, etc. - Prepare exam room with supplies and equipment for examination of patient. Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
- Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action.
- Sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave. Ensure autoclave is cleaned monthly as recommended per manufacturer.
- Answer patients' calls and determine how to assist them.
- Collect samples, such as blood, urine, or sputum from patients, and perform routine laboratory tests on samples.
- Inventory and requisition supplies and instruments.
- Responsible for patient education as ordered by Provider.
- Work as part of a healthcare team to assess patient needs, plan and modify care, and implement interventions.
- Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.
- Operates EKG, and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests as order by the Provider.
- Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Responsible for maintaining and proper reporting of vaccine inventory to PTCHC administration and WVVFC program on a monthly basis.
- Maintains emergency drug box with up-to-date drugs and proper supplies monthly.
- Maintains sample drug room monthly with proper disposal of expired meds.
- Maintains medical/laboratory maintenance logs per PTCHC policy. This includes all QA logs such as spore tests, temperature logs, etc.
- Completes quality assurance chart audits as directed by the CQI committee.
- May be required to work at other PTCHC sites as needed.
- Must have the initiative to find things that need to be done and be willing to assist the other staff when not busy.
- Report and accidental or incidental event to employees or patients by reporting to the Provider and the Administrative Office on the appropriate "Incident Form"
- Completes all Program paperwork per policy (BCCSP, WV Health check, WV-VFC)
