The College of Law at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an AV/IT Support position.
About the OpportunityThis position supports the classroom and distance learning technology needs of the WVU College of Law, faculty, staff and students. The technician works with vendors to design classroom and courtroom technology systems and oversees the installation and troubleshooting of such technology. Day to day operations include the maintenance and troubleshooting of video conferencing, computers and classroom technology. This is an entry level position working under the direction and supervision of Professional Technologist
3. This is a full-time, 10-month (August-May), benefits eligible position, with work hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM M-Fr.

What You'll Do- Instructional Technology
- Perform regular maintenance and testing on all classroom and courtroom technology to ensure proper function.
- Keep detailed inventory of all classroom technology hardware.
- Schedule, coordinate, and conduct classroom training sessions for faculty and staff as needed. Schedule and coordinate one-on-one training as requested.
- Develop training materials for all classroom technology.
- Serve as lead support to faculty, staff and students on all devices within the technology classrooms including all video conferencing hardware and room controls.
- Work with vendors to keep classroom and courtroom technology current and functional. Schedule repairs as needed. Work with technology vendors to develop bid documents for classroom technology upgrades.
- Research, implement and maintain a wide variety of complex systems including, but not limited to, Crestron room control, Panopto video recording/storage, classroom technology and courtroom technology.
- Identify, research and propose instructional technology, hardware, software and services that will enhance/improve technology classrooms.
- Evaluate, specify, and purchase computers and related hardware for faculty, administration, and classroom use (Mac, PC). Configure, set up, and maintain all law school computers. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of university-owned hardware assets.
- Distance Learning
- Supports all College of Law classroom and distance technology, ensures that equipment is available and functioning when needed.
- Acts as primary video conferencing operational technician to organize, schedule and connect video conferences locally and nationally for distance learning.
- Works with state and national law firms, law schools and universities to conduct video conferences for educational and administrative purposes.
- Video Recording
- Maintain online storage, classroom hardware including microphones and cameras required to support streaming video for capture and playback of classroom recordings.
- Maintain regular backups of all videos of events and skills recordings.
- Administrator of the Panopto cloud recording platform used for classroom and moot court recordings.
- Explore new technologies for classroom and skills recording and apply those technologies to keep COL current.
- Supports WVU departments and outside parties who use the law school event space as a meeting venue. Works events providing AV support or trains outside support personnel to use the installed equipment.
- General IT Support
- Maintain schedule of all required AV setups.
- Assists faculty, staff and students with computer, software and network related difficulties. Installs computers and software as needed.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
- 0–1 year of experience in IT support or technical support within an IT environment.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact at all organizational levels and with technical staff, managers, and end-users.
- Strong communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare technical documentation and justify approach used, resolve complex issues, explain and/or train staff on technical features of an application or process, and the ability to express technical information to non-technical users as well as gather information from them relating to system development to meet their business rules.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate in challenging situations.
- Strong analytical skills to be able to research, analyze, detect, and technically correct developed processes.
- Demonstrated ability to reason logically and analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to define procedural problems, collect and evaluate data, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative recommendations.
