The role is primarily home‑based, with expectations to attend our Harrogate office when required.
North Yorkshire Council is seeking a skilled and ambitious Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (FILEX) to join our high‑performing Legal Service. About the Role:As a key member of our Commercial Contracts and Procurement team, you’ll provide expert legal advice on:
- Public procurement processes and compliance
- Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
- Grants, subsidy control, and company law
- Local authority trading and governance
You’ll work closely with internal departments and external clients, helping to deliver innovative, legally sound solutions that support the Council’s strategic goals.
What We’re Looking For:- You must be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or FILEX with a practising certificate.
- Demonstrable experience in commercial contracts, procurement, or a related legal area.
- Excellent drafting and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly.
- A forward‑thinking, resilient professional able to provide timely solutions in a fast‑paced environment.
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and elected members.
- A knowledge of court procedures and attending court (if relevant).
- Local Authority experience is desirable but not essential; we welcome applications from all sectors.
