Chemist Position

Summary:

Chemist needed for a large manufacturer located in Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia. Will assist the plant by:

  • Being accountable for performance to lab and plant goals.
  • Conduct product testing per sample/analysis plans. Which is typically for wastewater samples but can include raw materials, intermediate products, finished products, and technical service samples.
  • Maintain accurate and timely analysis reports, including entering data in various computer systems.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment including routine maintenance.
  • Complete daily SPC activities and use SPC principles and tools to identify problem areas and areas for improvement.
  • Dump all lab samples in approved containers and general upkeep of work area.
  • Retain laboratory samples.
  • Adhere to plant policies, especially Safety Rules and proper PPE.
  • Complete other projects as directed and all other tasks/duties as assigned.

This is a temporary, full-time position, hiring immediately and lasting indefinitely. Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some weekend hours and overtime may be required. Pay is $19/hour.

Qualifications/Skills Needed:

Required qualifications:

  • Associate degree in chemistry or related field.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment along with managing multiple projects/priorities/tasks simultaneously.
  • Motivated and ability to accurately perform large number of tests in a laboratory setting.
  • Understanding of common analytical instrumentation (ICP, pH meter, viscometer, spectrophotomer, colorimeter, densitometer, titrators, balances, resistivity meter, etc.)
  • Must be highly detail-oriented.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years working as a lab tech or chemist.
  • Prior experience in a chemical manufacturing laboratory environment.
  • Preferred Computer skills – MS Office, Outlook, SAP, SPC statistical data.
