Job Overview
Manages the day-to-day operation of the Nursing and Clinical Education Department. Provides guidance, establishes direction for programs and services, and manages the associated budget. Holds hire and fire authority for Nursing and Clinical Education staff.
Responsibilities- Member of the management team, engaging in strategic and performance‑improvement planning and executing plans that impact Nursing and Clinical education.
- Supervises Nursing and Clinical Education staff through recruiting, selecting, staffing, coaching, assigning work, and appraising performance.
- Develops, plans, and implements the electronic biennial nursing and clinical learning needs assessment; disseminates results and creates educational plans using multiple modalities.
- Oversees planning, development, management, and evaluation of clinical education training programs and curriculum for employees.
- Guides planning and execution of Nursing and Clinical Services orientation for new employees, clinical programs, American Heart Association courses, and other organizational programs.
- Acts as a consultant to interprofessional leaders, guiding educational needs, implementing new practices, designing processes, and executing organizational strategies.
- Leads the house‑wide nursing education council and serves as a consultant to other nursing shared governance councils.
- Facilitates professional development of all staff, ensuring competence through tools and templates for orientation, initial/hire, and ongoing competence.
- Facilitates the Nursing Services education plan for orientation, staff development, continuing education, competency validation, and academic experiences.
- Engages in fiscal activities to ensure timely, cost‑effective availability of supplies, equipment, and human resources for clinical education needs.
- Determines strategic direction of clinical programs and services to align with organizational needs and goals.
- Supports an environment for innovation, creativity, and empowerment based on current best practice, literature, and research.
- Serves as a consultant to other departments, health care institutions, agencies, and professional organizations in areas related to orientation, continuing education, staff development, competency validation, and education.
- Participates in planning and implementing changes to improve productivity and reduce costs through meetings, task forces, and committees.
- Collaborates in designing educational plans and providing specialized expertise in teaching/learning principles.
- Identifies current and future educational needs, developing strategic, sustainable plans.
- Acts as a change agent in effecting appropriate changes within the health care delivery system.
- Builds and expands personal and professional expertise by contributing to the growth of knowledge in nursing, education, and development.
- Serves as a consultant and mentor to system hospital education departments and leadership by providing resources and developing education plans.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BSN).
- Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or a current multi‑state RNP through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Five (5) years of nursing experience, including at least one (1) year of teaching/learning methodology experience.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related field.
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development or a specialty.
- Two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Regular physical effort such as lifting and transporting materials and equipment of at least twenty pounds, stooping, pushing heavy carts or equipment.
- Office or classroom environment.
- Capable of translating strategy into specific goals, action plans, and deliverables using principles, methods, and tools according to the Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practice model.
