Job Description:
The River Guide Trainee position is an exciting opportunity to learn the skills and techniques required to become a professional whitewater rafting guide at Adventures on the Gorge. Trainees will participate in a comprehensive training program designed to prepare them for guiding guests safely and confidently on rafting trips. Training will commence in mid‑April 2026 and is a 4‑week commitment. Upon a trainee’s successful completion of training and certification, trainees are then cleared to guide guests commercially.
- Participate fully in all training sessions, including on‑water practice, safety drills, and classroom instruction.
- Learn and demonstrate proficiency in river navigation, boat handling, and rescue techniques.
- Understand and adhere to all Adventures on the Gorge safety standards and operational procedures.
- Assist experienced guides with trip preparation, guest orientation, and equipment management.
- Provide exceptional customer service and create a positive, memorable experience for guests.
- Maintain professionalism and a team‑oriented attitude throughout training and guiding activities.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all products and services offered by AOTG.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures to ensure safety of guests.
- Must be knowledgeable guide for clients and provide support and reassurance.
- Ensure security of company assets and a safe work environment through daily maintenance and housekeeping.
- Work in conditions that involve exposure to unusual elements and extreme temperatures.
- Maintain excellent customer service and a positive demeanor toward guests, customers, co‑workers, and others.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Strong swimming ability and comfort in moving water required.
- Basic First Aid and CPR are required.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team.
- Previous outdoor or water‑based experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for varied amounts of time.
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be available to work flexible hours.
This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
