Manager, Occupational Health and Safety

Acuña, Coahuila

Objective:

Manage, supervise, and implement Occupational Health and Safety programs that comply with the policies and guidelines set by Mexican government agencies, the company, and the corporation.

Responsibilities:

  • Comply with and enforce the Corporate Environmental, Energy, Safety, and Occupational Health Policy.
  • Ensure compliance with Mexican Federal, State, and Municipal laws, regulations, and official standards applicable to Occupational Health and Safety, as well as corporate and international treaties.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate objectives and goals in the area of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Ensure compliance with internal requirements established by the Corporation.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Energy, Environment, Health, and Safety Management System, including the achievement of EMASS objectives and goals.
  • Comply with the Occupational Health monitoring plan and verify that applicable medical surveillance is carried out according to the results.
  • Follow up and close actions from ergonomic studies.
  • Authorization of chemical substances.
  • Food safety audits.
  • Ensure that the list of identification of regulatory compliance requirements is up to date.
  • Compliance with out-of-range parameters in Industrial Hygiene study results.
  • Incident management and lessons learned. Establish a plan for accident prevention and coordinate the investigation team when an accident occurs.
  • Implement an accident prevention program for the plant under their charge, taking into account the risks inherent to the manufacturing processes corresponding to the plant under their charge.
  • Report results in the internal OHS Metrics System, include recordable and non-recordable accidents in the internal system, Safety Scorecard, Project review requests, and other OHS systems.
  • Ensure attention and follow-up to results of inspections by Government Authorities in the area of OHS, when they occur.
  • Verify the effectiveness of the actions implemented as a result of Non-Conformities recorded in the internal system.
  • Ensure that the Plant carries out the necessary activities to maintain the ISO 45001 Certificate, as well as Certifications requested by Clients, Government Agencies, and Corporate OHS (includes new certification requirements).
  • Ensure that operational controls for Occupational Health and Safety are efficient to keep fatality risks related to these at insignificant levels.
  • Change Control Management for new projects (Change Management), transfers, etc.
  • Compliance with Safety Assessments (New Projects System, Operational Risk Analysis)
  • Follow-up on Occupational Health and Safety compliance for external service areas (transportation, industrial canteens, contractors, etc.)
  • Coordination of Plant Medical Services

Required Profile

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in the field of Environment, Occupational Health and Safety (Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Medicine, Environmental, Industrial) or related.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the field of Environment, Occupational Health and Safety in manufacturing companies

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • National Legislation on Environment, Health, and Safety.
  • ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 standards
  • Computer packages.
  • Fluent business conversational English.
  • Demonstrable managerial skills in personnel management.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through effective communication.
  • Analysis and decision-making.
  • Leadership.
  • Experience in manufacturing plants.
  • Emergency response program, fire system vs. incidents, Continuous Improvement, Industrial Safety Committees.
  • Electrical safety.
  • Construction work, knowledge in metal mechanics, food safety: desirable.
  • Knowledge in ISO 50001:2018, PASST.

Competencies:

  • Root Cause Analysis in Incident and Non-Conformity Investigation (8

    Ds)
  • Competent in Hazard and Risk Identification.
  • Facilitator in Occupational Health and Safety issues.
  • Sense of urgency / prioritization.
  • Lead Auditor and/or internal auditor in ISO 45001.
  • Constancy of legal requirements.
