Turnaround Safety Specialist (Washington, WV)
On-Board Engineering is hiring a Turnaround Safety Specialist in Washington, WV.
Position Details- Position Type: Full Time / Contract (9+ months with possibility of extension)

- Compensation: $45 - $60/hr depending on experience & qualifications
The Safety Coordinator serves as the primary safety resource supporting site construction, maintenance, and turnaround activities. This role partners with Operations, Project Management, Contractors, and Site Leadership to ensure work is executed safely and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and site‑specific safety standards. The Safety Coordinator promotes a strong safety culture through field presence, coaching, inspections, and proactive risk management.
Key Responsibilities- Provide daily field safety oversight for construction, maintenance, and turnaround activities
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and field observations to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements
- Review and support Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), pre‑job safety meetings, work permits, and hazard assessments
- Coach employees and contractors on safe work practices and intervene to address unsafe conditions or behaviors
- Support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implementation of corrective actions
- Track safety metrics, identify trends, and communicate findings to site leadership
- Partner with project teams and contractors to ensure safety expectations are understood and consistently applied
- Participate in safety meetings, readiness reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
- 5+ years’ experience supporting construction, maintenance, or turnaround safety activities in a chemical, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety best practices
- Strong communication, coaching, and cross‑functional coordination skills
- Ability to perform field observations, safety audits, and incident investigations
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Professional safety certification (CHST, ASP, CSP, or equivalent) or progress toward certification
- Experience with permit‑to‑work systems, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work, and contractor safety management
- Familiarity with behavior‑based safety programs, leading indicators, and safety performance metrics
In order to be considered for this role, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without sponsorship. Background and drug screenings required.
