Job Summary /Basic Function
The student will participate in all aspects of scientific research through participation in the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium fellowship program at Shepherd University. The student will work closely with their research mentor to identify a discrete project that contributes to the research activities of the faculty mentor, is encompassed within the faculty mentor’s expertise, and the research aligns with a space related field as defined by NASA .
After identifying the project, the student and mentor will design an experiment or series of experiments based on the hypothesis posed. The student will be responsible for completing these experiments with guidance from the research mentor. After gathering the data, the student to complete the appropriate statistical analysis and work with the mentor to develop conclusions based on these analyses.
The student will work with the research mentor to prepare materials for presentation and publication. These materials will minimally include an abstract and poster for submission to and presentation at the annual West Virginia Academy of Science meeting.
Pay rate is determined by grant funding.
- Have completed fewer than 90 credit hours at the end of the Spring 2026 semester.
- Must be enrolled at full-time at Shepherd University.
- Must be an undergraduate STEM major.
Lack of previous participation as a NASA WVSGC fellow.
