Position: Security Officer 1

Perform a variety of duties to provide assistance and information to all patients, visitors, and staff. Enforce WVU Medicine policies and procedures to provide a safe, secure environment, in support of the Security Program.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license
Certification in BLS or Heart Saver First Aid within 60 days of hire date
State criminal background check and Federal check (if applicable), as required for regulated areas
Taser user certification (department level)
Handcuffing tactics training (department level)
OC spray certification (department level)
AVADE training levels I–III (department level)

Preferred Qualifications

Security/safety related certification or education
Prior experience in the security field
Three (3) years of experience in healthcare security

Core

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide an information and directional resource for all patients, visitors, and staff
Respond to all patient, visitor, and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner
Provide physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services, and room access to patients, visitors, and staff accessing WVU Medicine facilities
Monitor and maintain traffic flow in parking areas and roadways by assisting disabled vehicles, issuing parking permits, and warning violations
Protect people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft, and vandalism, in accordance with system and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision
Perform routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrol
Make recommendations to management, staff, visitors, and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime
Report suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents, and persons, according to system and department policy and procedures
Respond and provide assistance to patients, visitors, and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues, according to system and department policy and procedures
Provide written documentation of activities, incidents, premises safety, accidents, theft, vandalism and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective, and legible manner
Respond to and provide assistance to patients, visitors, and staff during emergency situations such as assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.
Perform patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and be capable of physical intervention when appropriate
Operate hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner
Ensure safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections, as outlined by departmental policy
Other requirements may include incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, medical assistance, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, traffic direction, policy enforcement, alarm investigation, duress, physical intervention, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, radio communication, escorting patients/visitors/staff, accurate directions to customers, loss prevention, vehicular assistance, transport equipment, posts assignments for exterior patrol/all canopy/all booths/building rounds/ED, and STOPS training

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for the entire shift and/or double shift
Ability to lift, push or pull 80 pounds
Ability to tolerate adverse environmental conditions for the entire shift and/or double shift

Working Environment

May frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions while performing duties of this job
