Location: Berkeley Springs
This position is targeted to meet the specific operational needs of the College.
This position will serve as a temporary part‑time employee to support the needs of the institution, assigned to the Pines Opportunity Center (Morgan County Campus) but may report to other locations as needed. The incumbent will conduct unarmed foot and vehicular patrols, and will perform regular interior and exterior rounds to ensure all locks and means of access are secured. The incumbent must be customer‑service oriented, communicating effectively with the public and staff.
The incumbent will prepare legible incident reports, clearly documenting all unusual or suspicious activities occurring on campus during their shift. The incumbent is also responsible for reporting crimes or suspicious persons to local law enforcement authorities.
This is a Temporary Part‑time position as designated by the state of WV. A Temporary Employee is hired into a position expected to last fewer than nine months within a twelve‑month period, and is not eligible for benefits.
The days and shift times may vary; special shifts may be required based on business needs.
Responsibilities- Perform interior and exterior patrols; vehicular patrols of campus parking lots and environs.
- Unlock and lock doors; set intrusion detection alarms.
- Respond to calls for security assistance in regard to medical emergencies and other first‑responder related matters.
- Monitor CCTV surveillance cameras and respond to observed suspicious activity.
- Investigate all suspicious and extraordinary situations.
- Monitor access control, ensuring all visitors and vendors are signed‑in.
- Prepare comprehensive and descriptive incident reports.
- Provide customer service to visitors, staff, and students, answering questions pertaining to campus functions.
- Prepare student and employee and issue vehicle parking permits (Main Campus).
- Provide safety escort services to and from campus to parking lots upon request.
- Annotate the Daily Security Log Book, including routine patrols and out‑of‑the‑ordinary situations.
- Open and secure College facilities based on the operating schedule and assist in situational lock‑downs.
- Assist in conducting fire and other first‑responder drills.
- Provide parking lot and traffic assistance as needed.
- Perform daily mail pick‑up and delivery when assigned to the Tech Center.
- Act as backup for the primary receiver, receiving all packages for Tech Center recipients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.
Individuals hired for this position will be expected to deescalate potential confrontations. This is an unarmed position; the incumbent will be trained and certified to carry and deploy pepper spray in self‑defense.
EducationHigh School Diploma/GED
ExperienceOne year of security, law enforcement, emergency medical service, or related experience is preferred, or similar duties while serving in the armed forces of the United States.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required- Maintain a high level of situational awareness.
- Capable of de‑escalating confrontations.
- Multi‑task and communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Walk, sit, climb stairs, and lift packages of moderate weight.
- Good hearing, eyesight, and depth perception for job functions.
- Experience and/or training in CPR, AED, basic first aid, and deployment of pepper spray is preferred.
- Possess a valid State driver’s license.
- A valid state driver’s license is required to operate security vehicles.
- CPR/AED certification is preferred.
- Training in the use and deployment of OC spray is preferred.
Incumbents must possess the capacity to perform physical activities such as walking during patrols, standing for long periods while assigned to a fixed post, climbing stairs, and entering restrictive spaces. Visual acuity is required to observe and identify individuals and vehicles on CCTV, and to complete incident reports. Hearing and speech must allow coherent communication. Emotional stability is needed to handle highly stressful situations and deescalate them.
