Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Certification in BLS or Heart Saver First Aid within 60 days of hire date
  • State criminal background check and Federal background check (if applicable), as required for regulated areas
  • Additional Certifications Completed at Department Level
  • Taser User certification
  • Handcuffing Tactics training
  • OC Spray Certification
  • AVADE Training Levels I - III
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Education, certification or licensure related to Security/Safety.

    Experience
  • Prior experience in the Security field
  • Three (3) years of experience in Healthcare Security

    Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide an informational and directional resource for patients, visitors and staff, distributing accurate information to all who request such.
  • Responds to all patient, visitor and staff requests for information or assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
  • Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services and room access to patients, visitors and staff accessing WVU Medicine facilities.
  • Monitors and maintains traffic flow in parking areas and roadways by assisting disabled vehicles, issuing parking permits and warning of violations.
  • Protects people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with system and department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision.
  • Performs routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrols.
  • Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
  • Reports suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents and persons, according to system and department policy and procedures.
  • Responds and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables and lost/found issues, according to system and department policy and procedures.
  • Provides written documentation of activities, incidents, premises safety, accidents, theft, vandalism and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.
  • Responds to and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during emergency situations such as assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.
  • Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.
  • Operates hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections, as outlined by departmental policy.
  • Other responsibilities may include incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, medication assistance, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, traffic direction, policy enforcement, alarm investigation, duress, physical intervention, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, effective radio communication, escorting patients/visitors/staff, accurate directions to customers, loss prevention, vehicle assistance, transport equipment, staff, vice, posts assignments for exterior patrol, all canopy, all booths, building rounds, ED and STOPS training.
