PositionSummary
This DOT-covered classification is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. We are hiring two (2) qualified Journeyman Linemen to work throughout our service territory in Distribution. Journeyman Linemen are responsible for building and maintaining electric power systems and for restoring electric service to commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential customers. Duties include testing, framing, setting poles; climbing poles; working in confined spaces;
splicing and terminating cables. The work is predominantly outdoors and in all weather conditions. Linemen must be able to drive safely, work extended hours, travel or report to different locations across the territory upon request at any time.
- Travel to various job locations within the assigned region.
- Review job work requirements and provide input regarding work for the day.
- Load and unload tools, materials and supplies into and out of vehicles at crew headquarters and job sites.
- Lift, pull and carry insulators, cross-arms, equipment, tools, grounds, dampers, and other materials to and from job sites.
- Climb poles using boot hooks or aerial lift.
- Test, frame, set and/or anchor poles; string electric power lines and install cross-arms.
- Perform substation switching; install and replace switches, circuit protection equipment, insulators, meters and streetlights.
- Hang and energize transformers.
- Take voltage readings.
- Troubleshoot problems and determine extent of repairs on primary and secondary overhead or underground dead legs.
- Use hand and power tools; dig holes by hand for pole installation; climb ladders, poles, embankments and towers; work at heights above 35 feet on poles and in aerial lifts; set grounds; work with live circuits; and work in trenches, manholes and confined spaces.
- Set and install underground structures, locate, pull, remove, splice or terminate cables.
- Operate hydraulic equipment including drills, boom truck, digger, pole tamper, hydraulic jack and bucket truck once certified.
- Operate lift equipment such as aerial lifts and line truck booms.
- Operate forklift to load and unload work materials and supplies.
- Travel by vehicle, motor boat or off-road utility vehicle (OUV) to access job sites.
- May drive a Class A vehicle (bucket truck and line truck) to and from the job site; may drive a company pickup truck or passenger vehicle to job sites, meetings, training, vendor locations and for delivery of supplies and materials.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections.
- Provide back‑up relief in the temporary absence of a lead lineman, direct work to other crew members and act as a leader.
- Attend all mandated OSHA and company training.
- Provide on‑the‑job training, orientation, demonstration and assistance to apprentice linemen.
- Completion of a federal or state sanctioned line worker apprenticeship with approved supporting documentation (e.g., IBEW Journeyman Lineman A Ticket) and/or union or union‑affiliated sponsored line worker apprenticeship.
- Valid Class A driving permit by first day of employment.
- Passed a DMV medical exam by first day of employment.
- Live within 40 minutes of the assigned Service Center.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or GED and 5 years electric line utility experience.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work and drive in all types of weather and road conditions.
- Capable of working extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must pass drug screen, background check, Post Offer Physical (POPA) before starting employment.
- Experience in rubber gloving and hot stick procedures.
- Experience in transmission and distribution work, underground and at multiple voltages.
