Overview
Under the supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisors, the Building Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled work at the full‑performance level in the mechanical or building trades in connection with the maintenance and repair of a 120‑room lodge, 31 cabins, Old Inn, park residences, nature center, picnic shelters, horse stable, bathhouse, and park support facilities at Cacapon Resort State Park.
Responsibilities- Install, upkeep, and repair safety equipment such as smoke alarms, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and sprinklers in the park lodge and cabins.
- Perform plumbing work including the installation, upkeep, and repair of faucets, shut‑off valves, water main lines, pumps, water heaters, and pumps.
- Perform HVAC work including the installation, upkeep, and repair of circulator pumps, thermostat systems, air handlers, air filters, ductwork, heat exchangers, and PTAC units.
- Perform limited electrical work, installing, maintaining, and repairing small light fixtures, power outlets, and switches.
- Operate various mechanical tools and equipment such as chainsaws, leaf blowers, blowtorches, air compressors, circular saws, excavators, skid steers, and lawn mowers.
- Answer guest inquiries, deliver firewood to cabins if needed, tend to the lodge fire pit, and perform evening closing duties such as closing the mountain gate.
Work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and environments. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, interact with park visitors courteously and professionally, maintain efficient working relationships with other staff, and comply with all Division of Personnel and State Park policies, procedures, and regulations. Must be flexible in scheduling—working weekdays, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Must wear a park uniform, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain regular attendance.
Minimum Qualifications- Training:
No formal education required. - Experience:
Two years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in building maintenance or as a helper in a building trade. - Special Requirement:
Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA‑approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
