Job Summary:
The Diesel Mechanic-Heavy Equipment will work closely with the General Manager on all day-to-day functions of the Maintenance Shop. Candidate must have extensive diagnostic and repair experience for all heavy equipment typically on site at a landfill. This position requires an individual with knowledge of electrical, diesel, mechanical and hydraulic systems. The Diesel Mechanic-Heavy Equipment will be responsible to supervise mechanics as well as performing and tracking all daily activities related to vehicle repair and preventive maintenance to ensure proper performance and safety of all vehicles as well as participate in actual repair work whenever necessary.
Compensation: will be determined based on experience
Essential Functions/
Job Responsibilities:
- Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in heavy equipment.
- Rebuild, replace or repair equipment parts such as engines, brakes, transmission lines and electrical assemblies etc.
- Establish and maintain proper preventive maintenance intervals for all equipment and schedule work to comply with the set intervals.
- Must have the ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematic diagrams and technical repair manuals.
- Conduct extensive equipment inspections and identify worn/damaged parts, evaluate required repairs and provide accurate detailed cost estimates.
- Must be able to assign priority to multiple equipment repairs.
- Coordinate and control outside repairs when work cannot be performed in shop.
- Assign equipment repairs/maintenance to mechanics and oversee proper completion of work. Inspect work performed by other mechanics.
- Assist in locating and requisitioning parts needed for equipment repair and coordinate/communicate with purchasing department.
- Perform safety inspections as needed for all equipment.
- Operate tools, equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Ensure all shop safety procedures are enforced and all shop personnel are trained in OSHA safety procedures.
- Observe how equipment is being operated by company personnel and recommend changes to improve longevity of equipment; mentor and develop other mechanics.
- Direct the upkeep and appearance of the shop area.
- Assist in the recruiting, screening, training and evaluation of shop employees.
- Maintain equipment service records, account for parts and time used and analyze records to prevent future repairs.
- Ensure that facility meets all environmental regulatory requirements as it relates to site maintenance and equipment requirements.
Candidate should be able to operate or have knowledge of operation of the following types of equipment:
- Compactors
- Excavators
- Bulldozers
- Articulated Wheel Loaders
- Articulated Haul Trucks
- Backhoes
- Telescopic Handlers
- Skid Steer
