General Maintenance/HVAC Technician
Under immediate supervision - performs tasks, including but not limited to installing, maintaining, repairing, or upgrading heating and air conditioning systems in the schools and various buildings on WVSDB campus; procuring parts and materials needed to complete assigned jobs; and maintaining records of time and materials to complete job orders.
Will adhere to WVDE Policy 5902 – "Employee Code of Conduct" and the applicable WVSDB personnel policies for employee performance. Observes safety precautions in carrying out assigned duties. Carries and operates communication devices with established notification procedures, as requested. Responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of campus heating and air conditioning units and related electrical equipment. Estimates time and materials for heating and air conditioning projects.
Conducts inventory of air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical materials, supplies and equipment, submitting reports/requests based on inventory records. Serves as a crew chief for specific projects, working individually or as a team member for other projects. Performs general maintenance tasks when HVAC assignments are completed or on hold due to unforeseen circumstances. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving safety concerns.
Transports various items (e.g., tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site. Performs grounds maintenance or other general maintenance duties when assigned. Assist with snow and ice removal operations on roadways and sidewalks so they can be made safe as soon as possible, which includes callouts after normal working hours. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or superintendent.
WV Code 18A-4-8: "General maintenance" means a person employed as a helper to skilled maintenance employees, and to perform minor repairs to equipment and buildings. WV Code 21-16-2: "HVAC Technician" means a person with at least 2,000 hours of HVAC-related work, training, and experience and is licensed to install, test, maintain, and repair both residential and nonresidential heating, ventilating, and cooling systems.
Qualifications:
- Possesses High School diploma or equivalent, pursuant to WV Code §18A-2-5. Possession of a current license for a certified HVAC Technician in the State of West Virginia. Possession of a certificate of training related to the use of air conditioning refrigerants - Clean Air Act of 1990, Section 608. Meets the definition of "Qualifications" in WV Code §18A-4-8b; demonstrated competency, pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test), as required.
Successful completion of a criminal background check pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10. - Demonstrated experience and/or training in any/or all job classifications identified within this job description. Possesses a valid state-issued motor vehicle operator's license. Physically able to perform heavy, extensive lifting and manual labor. Must hold, or be able to obtain, licensures required by state or federal agencies in the performance of the position.
Physical demands include reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, writing, talking, hearing, seeing, using technology such as computer and multimedia equipment, and using repetitive motions. The employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 50-100 pounds. He/she shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace. Alcohol and controlled substances which affect employee productivity, safety, or judgement will not be tolerated.
Expectations include meeting ASL skill level requirements, completing all required annual trainings, attending scheduled staff meetings, working effectively as a member of the educational team, demonstrating self-control, ethical conduct, good work habits, safety, hygiene, health standards, self-direction, ability to use software applications, self-motivation, ability to manage multiple tasks/assignments, excellent communication skills, and understanding that work assignments may change or be added as priorities emerge.
Compensation is based on WVSDB Service Personnel Pay Schedule, H Scale, commensurate with year of experience. 260-day annual contract. Full benefits package available.
