Minimum Special Hiring Rate: $36,533
Job OverviewThese positions work under general supervision and perform experienced journey level work maintaining and repairing a variety of equipment used in heating, cooling, and general operation of public buildings. Responsibilities include using OHM meters, voltmeters, AMP meters, thermometers, hydrometers, conductivity meters, light meters, sound meters, dial indicators, micrometers, and calipers; calculating and ordering materials; and performing related work as required. Workers may be required, with proper training, to work in asbestos or other environmental issues.
A valid driver’s license is required. Shift work and call‑back work may be required, and workers may also be required to work a security post.
Graduation from a standard four‑year high school, GED, a four‑year apprenticeship program, or a two‑year post‑secondary technical school.
SubstitutionExperience in air‑conditioning, heating, or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year‑for‑year basis.
ExperienceFour years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic, or masonry work.
Special RequirementsSpecific positions may require certification from a federal EPA‑approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the Clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
