Heavy Maintenance Carpenter
1. Purpose The Heavy Maintenance Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work related to the inspection, repair, renovation, construction, and maintenance of facilities, structures, and infrastructure assets. This position ensures that buildings and associated components remain safe, functional, compliant, and operational while supporting maintenance projects, emergency repairs, and capital improvement initiatives.
The role contributes to operational excellence by maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, quality, productivity, and regulatory compliance.

Role Overview The Heavy Maintenance Carpenter performs advanced carpentry duties involving structural repairs, framing, roofing, doors, windows, flooring, cabinetry, concrete forming, drywall systems, and facility renovations. The position works independently and as part of a maintenance team to complete scheduled, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
The incumbent is expected to demonstrate sound judgment, technical expertise, strong safety practices, and efficient work planning while ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

A. Maintenance and Repair Responsibilities Perform inspections and assessments of building structures and components.
Repair and replace damaged walls, ceilings, floors, doors, windows, roofing systems, and structural elements.
Install and maintain framing, trim, partitions, cabinets, and fixtures.
Complete drywall installation, finishing, patching, and painting preparation.
Perform concrete formwork and related carpentry tasks as required.
Execute preventive maintenance activities according to established schedules.
Performance Standards Work completed within established schedules.
Minimum rework due to workmanship deficiencies.
Repairs meet quality and durability standards.
Maintenance records completed accurately and timely.
B. Construction and Renovation Projects Responsibilities Construct , modify, and renovate building interiors and exteriors.
Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, sketches, and work orders.
Measure, estimate, and prepare material requirements.
Support capital improvement and facility upgrade projects.
Ensure completed work meets code requirements and organizational standards.
Performance Standards Projects completed according to specifications.
Material waste minimized.
Work passes inspections without significant deficiencies.
Deadlines consistently achieved.
C. Equipment and Tool Management Responsibilities Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment safely.
Conduct routine inspections of equipment before use.
Report defective equipment immediately.
Maintain organized and secure work areas and tool storage locations.
Performance Standards No preventable equipment damage.
Proper maintenance of assigned tools.
Compliance with inspection requirements.
Organized and safe work environment maintained.
D. Work Planning and Documentation Responsibilities Review work orders and determine labor, materials, and equipment needs.
Document completed work and maintenance activities.
Report project status, delays, and material requirements.
Participate in maintenance planning meetings and scheduling activities.
Performance Standards Accurate completion of work orders.
Timely communication of project progress.
Documentation completed in accordance with department standards.
E. Safety Responsibilities Responsibilities The Heavy Maintenance Carpenter shall:
Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Conduct job hazard assessments before beginning work.
Maintain housekeeping standards in all work areas.
Follow lockout/tagout procedures when applicable.
Safely operate power tools, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and specialty equipment.
Report accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
Participate in required safety meetings and training programs.
Stop work when unsafe conditions exist and notify supervision.
Safety Performance Standards Zero willful safety violations.
Consistent use of required PPE.Active participation in safety initiatives.
Accurate reporting of hazards and incidents.
Compliance with all safety regulations and procedures.
4. Daily Workflow Summary Start of Shift Attend safety briefing or toolbox talk.
Review assigned work orders and priorities.
Gather required materials, tools, permits, and PPE.Inspect tools and equipment.
During Shift Complete scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
Respond to urgent maintenance requests.
Coordinate with supervisors and other trades as necessary.
Maintain clean and safe work areas throughout the day.
Document completed work.
End of Shift Clean worksite and return tools.
Update work orders and maintenance records.
