ABOUTTHE ROLE
Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, Has immediate openings for an experienced and safety-focused Equipment Operator (Excavator Operator) to join our team. The position is based at our Millville, WV Quarry, with travel required to various Aggregate Production locations throughout Maryland and Virginia to support operational needs. The Excavator Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating excavators to support quarry and aggregate production operations, including excavating, loading, digging, material handling, and site preparation.
WHATYOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Safely and efficiently operate excavators to support quarry and aggregate production operations.
- Perform excavation, digging, loading, and material handling activities in accordance with production requirements.
- Load aggregate, overburden, and other materials into haul trucks while maintaining proper positioning and safe operating practices.
- Perform site preparation, bench development, slope work, trenching, and other excavation activities as directed.
- Operate excavators on varying terrain, quarry faces, benches, stockpiles, and other designated work areas.
Conduct thorough pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and promptly report mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns. - Perform routine operator-level maintenance, including lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, and other preventative maintenance activities.
Monitor ground conditions, highwalls, quarry faces, traffic patterns,and surrounding equipment to identify and respond to potential hazards. - Communicate effectively with supervisors, haul truck drivers, dozer operators, loaders, maintenance personnel, and other quarry team members to coordinate safe and efficient operations.
- Follow all company safety policies, MSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and established operating procedures while maintaining a strong focus on safety, productivity, and equipment care.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent - Required
Work Experience:
Minimum 2–3 years of experience working in a quarry or aggregate environment. - Previous experience operating excavators in a quarry, aggregate, mining, construction, or similar heavy-equipment environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with quarry operations, excavation, material handling, loading, stockpiles, and working around mobile equipment.
- Strong commitment to safe work practices and compliance with company policies, MSHA regulations, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to operate excavators safely and efficiently for digging, loading, excavation, and material movement.
- Ability to properly load haul trucks and manage materials while maintaining safe equipment positioning and production efficiency.
- Ability to perform thorough pre-shift inspections and identify mechanical, operational, or safety concerns.
- Basic understanding of heavy equipment systems and the ability to recognize and report maintenance needs.
- Ability to monitor ground conditions, highwalls, quarry faces, traffic, personnel, and surrounding equipment while operating safely.
- Works effectively with supervisors, haul truck drivers, dozer operators, loaders, maintenance personnel, and other quarry employees.
- Able and willing to travel to various Aggregate Production locations throughout Maryland and Virginia, with the primary position based at the Millville, WV Quarry.
