Core Government Services (CGS) company is seeking an experienced Senior HVAC / Mechanical Systems Technician to maintain and optimize the thermal management and mechanical systems supporting the VA Capital Region Readiness Center (CRRC) in Martinsburg, WV.
The Senior HVAC Technician will be responsible for preventive maintenance, emergency troubleshooting, overhaul, and repair of critical data center cooling systems, including central chillers, dry coolers, Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH) units, chilled water pumping systems, glycol loops, and rooftop air handling units.
Responsibilities:- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mission-critical commercial HVAC systems, ensuring uninterrupted temperature, humidity, and airflow control across the data center floor and administrative spaces.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and major overhauls on chillers, dry coolers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, variable frequency drives (VFDs), valves, and glycol loops in accordance with OEM guidelines.
- Monitor and verify environmental operating parameters via the building management system (BMS/Eco Struxure) and execute sequence of operations reviews.
- Perform filter replacements, coil cleanings, belt adjustments, bearing lubrications, refrigerant leak checks, and oil/water quality sampling.
- Diagnose complex refrigeration, electrical control, and mechanical failures, executing rapid repairs within contract response timelines.
- Maintain accurate refrigerant recovery and usage logs in full compliance with EPA Section 608 regulations.
- Enter detailed work orders, equipment condition assessments, and material requisitions into the CMMS.
- Coordinate closely with factory-authorized service providers during specialized chiller overhauls and proprietary warranty work.
Education and Experience:
- EPA Universal Section 608 Certification.
- Minimum five (5) years of commercial or mission-critical HVAC experience supporting facilities comparable in size and complexity to the CRRC.
- Proven experience troubleshooting and maintaining centrifugal/screw chillers, chilled water piping circuits, and close-tolerance computer room air conditioning systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, control wiring schematics, and manufacturer technical manuals.
- Current OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification and familiarity with NFPA 70E safety practices.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen able to pass a VA background check (e-QIP / SF-85P) and receive a VA PIV badge.
Education and Experience:
- Journeyman or Master HVAC/Mechanical License.
- Factory training/certification on major chiller and CRAH platforms (e.g., Liebert/Vertiv, Trane, York, Carrier).
- Experience working with computerized Building Management Systems (Schneider Eco Struxure, Andover Continuum).
- Formal training in hydronic balancing and vibration analysis.
Inside Government 24/7/365 mission-critical data center and utility plant facilities in Martinsburg, WV.
Work Schedule:Monday through Friday, 0800–1630, with 24/7 on-call escalation availability for emergencies and major maintenance evolutions.
