Position Summary
The Teachers Retirement Association (TRA) is seeking Retirement Services Representatives to help Minnesota educators and their beneficiaries understand and maximize their retirement benefits. Working within TRA’s Member Services Phone Center, this role provides retirement and pension information through phone, chat, and email communications while performing both routine and complex benefit calculations. Candidates should have strong customer service, communication, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills, along with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities- Assist educators and beneficiaries with retirement and pension benefit questions via phone, chat, and email.
- Explain retirement planning options and available TRA benefits.
- Perform routine and complex retirement‑related calculations.
- Interpret and apply retirement laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Provide accurate and timely customer service in a high‑volume service environment.
- Identify issues and recommend process improvements.
- Manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
- Travel occasionally for conferences, meetings, or outreach activities as needed.
- One year of experience in customer service related to employee benefits, government benefits, accounting, payroll, finance, insurance, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Math, Public Administration, or a related field may substitute for required experience.
- Experience performing calculations and analyzing information.
- Ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to explain financial concepts to diverse audiences.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Cisco Web Ex, or similar software.
- Ability to secure transportation for occasional in‑state travel.
- Experience in a call center environment supporting phone and chat services.
- Experience communicating retirement, pension, or financial concepts.
- Experience providing retirement or pension benefit services.
- Experience working with Minnesota public retirement systems.
- Advanced degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Math, Public Administration, or a related field.
