Lead RPG Programmer

We are seeking an experienced Lead RPG Programmer to join a small, collaborative development team supporting business-critical IBM i (AS/400) applications. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role where you'll serve as the senior RPG developer, helping guide development efforts while actively designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing core business systems.

The environment is primarily focused on traditional RPG development, with approximately 90% of the work centered around RPG on the IBM i platform. You'll work closely with business stakeholders and fellow developers to deliver application enhancements, support existing systems, and help drive technical best practices across the team.

• Lead the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of IBM i (AS/400) business applications.
• Develop and support applications written in RPG IV, ILE RPG, and CL.
• Maintain and enhance existing legacy applications while adhering to established development standards.
• Support applications running within the IBM i and Web Sphere environments.
• Work directly with business users to analyze requirements and implement application enhancements.
• Participate in code reviews and help establish development best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution for business‑critical systems.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, system administrators, and production support teams.
• Support application integrations and assist with ongoing modernization initiatives as needed.
• Mentor less experienced developers and serve as the team's technical resource for RPG development.

• 8+ years of IBM i (AS/400) application development experience.
• Strong proficiency with RPG IV, ILE RPG, and CL programming.
• Experience supporting applications within a Web Sphere environment.
• Strong understanding of IBM i architecture, libraries, job scheduling, and system operations.
• Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy RPG applications.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with business stakeholders.

• Previous experience serving as a Lead Developer, Technical Lead, or senior member of an IBM i development team.
• Experience with Java applications and web‑based front‑end integration.
• SQL and DB2 for i experience.
• Experience integrating IBM i applications with REST APIs or web services.
• Experience with in the steel, metals, manufacturing, or industrial industries.
• Familiarity with modern IBM i development tools such as RDi.

• Enhancing and maintaining business‑critical RPG applications.
