Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport material to disposal, transfer or recycling facilities upon reaching legal load capacity. Commercial drivers pick up containers of waste or recyclable material, often exceeding 1,000 pounds, and maneuver them to a pickup stage area. They navigate high‑traffic roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, requiring skilled backing maneuvers.
Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations while navigating driveways, alleyways, and tight overhead environments.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets, alleyways, or unsafe conditions.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments, complete end‑of‑day documentation, and the check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
- Minimum 1 year experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or equivalent military driving experience within the last 7 years.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Possess a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement (upon hire).
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
- Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, talking, hearing.

Eligibility and RequirementsTravel may require an air or federal property visit; successful candidates must obtain a REAL TSA‑approved alternative. The position may require travel by air for business reasons.
