Job Description

The Make Planner plays a central role in aligning customer demand with manufacturing execution. Through daily interaction with Sales, Purchasing, Operations, Quality, and Customer Service, this role provides critical insight into business priorities, ensuring that the right products are available at the right time while driving improvements in order visibility, inventory management, and customer service performance.
Success in this role requires a continuous improvement mindset, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across organizational disciplines to drive results.
- Develop and maintain production schedules that balance customer demand, plant capacity, material availability, and operational constraints.
- Partner closely with S&OP stakeholders to understand customer requirements, demand changes, strategic priorities, and delivery commitments.
- Manage inventory supply/demand balance and proactively resolve shortages, excess inventory, and planning exceptions.
- Review all alternative/substitute Bills of Material (BOMs) and routing changes to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
- Monitor production performance and adjust schedules as necessary to respond to changing customer requirements, material constraints, equipment downtime, or capacity limitations.
- Analyze and communicate material shortages, supply risks, and production bottlenecks while driving timely resolution.
- Partner with Purchasing to identify material requirements and recommend actions related to purchase order placement, changes, expedites, deferments, or cancellations.
- Drive effective utilization of excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory through proactive planning.
- Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and product transitions to ensure successful implementation.
- Maintain planning parameters, inventory data, and ERP system accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong computer, analytical, and record-keeping skills.
- Familiarity with Worthington Enterprises' business objectives and operational priorities.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage competing demands, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of materials management, inventory control, production planning, and supply chain concepts and terminology.
- ERP/MRP system experience required; or ability to learn.
- Demonstration of problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make sound business decisions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
