Position Summary:

The EDP Instructional Assistant for the After-School Program supports the participation and inclusion of students with disabilities in after-school activities. This role provides behavioral, and social support in a structured environment, ensuring a safe and positive experience for all students.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or training in special education, child development, or a related field preferred. Experience working with children with disabilities in educational or recreational settings strongly preferred. Understanding of positive behavior support strategies and inclusive practices. Ability to adapt activities to meet the diverse needs of students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in dynamic or challenging situations.

Essential Duties:
The Extended Day Program Group Leader has the responsibilities and performs the duties commonly associated with this position, including, but not exclusive of, the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District, and the terms of all employment agreements, with all of which he/she is expected to be familiar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Provide direct support to students with special needs during after-school activities, including enrichment, recreation, and homework time.

* Implement accommodations and behavior support strategies as outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 Plans.

* Facilitate positive social interactions among students and encourage inclusive play and participation.

* Assist with transitions between activities and provide supervision in various settings such as classrooms, playgrounds, and common areas.

* Support students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility) when required.

* Communicate regularly with after-school staff and families about student progress or concerns.

* Monitor and record student behaviors and support implementation of behavioral intervention plans if applicable.

* Ensure the safety, well-being, and respectful treatment of all students at all times.

* Participate in staff meetings and training sessions relevant to student support and program policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands include the ability to move safely about the program space, stand for prolonged periods, bend and lift up to 20 pounds at a time. May involve indoor and outdoor supervision, physical activity, and occasional lifting or physical assistance.

Must be able to securely file confidential documents. Ability to communicate verbally, and in writing via technology devices or handwritten correspondence. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

10-month hourly position, adjusted for when students with need are registered in the program. Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education.
