Job Description

The Westborough Public Schools are seeking a dynamic one‑year Moderate Special Education Teacher to join our caring staff at Westborough High School for the 2026‑2027 school year. This is a one‑year teaching position on Unit A contract, and the teacher will foster a love of learning, encourage student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners.

The Special Education Teacher will provide learning experiences that engage students and guide behavior learning by applying the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, district standards, and IEP goals. Responsibilities include facilitating academic, social and behavioral supports for students with special abilities through direct service, collaboration, consultation, and coaching.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of students to ensure IEPs are implemented and appropriate student progress is made.
  • Provide learning experiences across all subject areas guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, district standards, and IEP goals.
  • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum and refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase learning.
  • Write, revise, and monitor IEP implementation and SMART goals.
  • Communicate student progress through data‑driven SMART goal measures, written progress reports, and communication with colleagues and families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues as a co‑teacher to optimize student learning.
  • Participate in professional development activities and meet district expectations for licensure recertification.
  • Participate in faculty and district‑wide committees as required.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.
  • Professional Certification: MA DESE licensure in Special Education; SEI Endorsement.
  • Additional certification in general education and/or ESL highly desirable.
  • AP Certification preferred.
Specialized Knowledge
  • Child development, curriculum frameworks, curriculum accommodations and modifications, assessments, IEPs and progress reports.
  • Applied behavioral analysis (ABA), inclusive practices, progress monitoring, cultural proficiency and anti‑bias instruction.
  • Co‑teaching, CASEL, assistive technology.
  • CorI, Sori and fingerprinting required; all appointments conditional on satisfactory background check per 603 CMR 51.00.
Preferred Experience
  • Teaching English Language Learners in a diverse public school setting.
  • Experience with students with special abilities, including physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges.
  • Strong background in inclusive special education practices.
  • Strong background in literacy, math, science, and social studies instruction.
  • Experience writing and implementing IEPs and SMART goals.
  • Experience assessing student progress and writing data‑supported progress reports.
