Armstrong Elementary School, Westborough, MA seeks a dynamic Noon Aide (lunch/recess monitor) to join our caring staff beginning in the school year (Monday-Friday 11:15-1:30).
Westborough Public Schools is a high‑performing district committed to academic excellence, equity, and wellness. We educate approximately 4,000 students from Pre‑K through age 22, representing nearly 30 languages, with a student population of about 54% Students of Color and 46% White students. Our graduation rate is 97%, and 90% of our students attend post‑secondary institutions.
Position OverviewJob Title: Para educator, Noon Aide
Reports to: Principal
Work Year: 180 days
FLSA Status: Non‑exempt, Unit B, not benefits eligible
The Noon Aide supervises students during lunch and recess, ensuring a safe and enjoyable time. The role provides support in social‑emotional, behavioral, and life‑skills domains throughout the lunch and recess period.
Qualifications- Education: High school graduate or GED (solid related experience may substitute).
- Specialized Knowledge (Preferred): Child growth and development, cultural proficiency, social‑emotional learning.
- Background Check: CORI, SORI, and SAFIS background check per 603 CMR 51.00 required.
- Experience working with children ages 4‑12.
- Experience with English Language Learners and in a diverse public school setting.
- Experience with students with special abilities, including physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges.
- Experience supporting children with life‑skills such as communication, eating, cleaning, and playing.
- Create a welcoming, supportive lunch and recess environment.
- Empower students to be critical thinkers and reflect on learning, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
- Partner and collaborate with other Noon Aides and school staff.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with children and adults.
- Bilingual skills, especially Spanish and Portuguese, are desirable.
- Multi‑task in a fast‑paced, supportive environment that nurtures student growth.
- Maintain attendance records and arrive/depart at contractual times.
- Maintain physical strength and agility needed for job duties.
- Maintain professional boundaries with students and families/caregivers.
- Ensure confidentiality of records and personal information related to students.
- Work flexibly and adapt to changing needs.
- Ensure proper safety practices at all times.
- Serve as a role model, demonstrating positive attitudes.
- Provide intensive attention and instruction to social and physical needs.
- Provide social‑emotional and behavioral support as needed.
- De‑escalate students, remove from lunchroom or playground, consult with administrators or other staff as necessary.
- Display flexibility in accepting and carrying out assignments.
- Wipe down cafeteria tables and maintain cleanliness.
- Comply with policies as outlined in the Westborough Public Schools Employee Handbook.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the WPS Para educator’s Evaluation system.
Salary and BenefitsSalary and benefits, for permanent benefits‑eligible employees, are based on the contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
