Role

Principal Electrical Engineer:

Full Spectrum is seeking a talented and motivated Principal Electrical Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to high-quality design, be a self-starter, have good attention to detail, have past experience with system architecture, schematic design and PCB layout, and a range of peripheral ecosystems. This candidate must have the ability to work well both independently and in team settings.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the system architecture and design of complex, custom PCBAs based on modern microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M/R) and Single Board Computers (SBCs / System-on-Modules) for medical device systems
  • Create robust schematics for digital and analog circuitry, including power management (PMICs, DC-DC converters), memory interfaces, and sensor integration
  • Execute multilayer PCB layouts with a focus on signal integrity and power integrity
  • Interface with a diverse range of protocols and peripherals including Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, Ethernet (GbE), RS-485, CAN Bus, and various SPI/I2C sensors
  • Design and integrate advanced display systems, specifically focusing on LVDS/MIPI DSI interfaces and capacitive touchscreens for use in surgical or diagnostic environments
  • Generate all necessary design documents required for the client’s Technical File
  • Ensure all designs are optimized for manufacturability (DFM), testing (DFT), and comply with EMI/EMC regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with Firmware, Software and Test Engineers to bring up BSPs, collaborate on timing requirements, register-level configurations, power and state management, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and cybersecurity hardware integration
Required Skills and Experience
  • 8-10+ years of electrical hardware design, preferably in consulting or fast-paced product environment
  • Strong knowledge of Altium Designer for complex, multi-sheet designs and library management
  • Proven track record with ST STM
    32 or NXP i.MX processors
  • Deep understanding of impedance control, differential pair routing, and length matching for high-speed interfaces like DDR4, PCIe, and USB 3.0
  • Experience working with medical device development standards such as IEC 60601, including experience implementing hardware-level patient and operator protection, isolation and leakage current management and immunity to interference, in accordance with the standard
  • Expert-level use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers for hardware bring-up and root-cause failure analysis
  • Experience working with Quality and Regulatory teams to provide input for Risk Analysis per ISO 14971
  • Proven track record of executing tasks to a project schedule while managing scope creep and technical debt
  • Ability to explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical client stakeholders
Desired Experience
  • Programming experience (C/C++, Python, Verilog, VHDL)
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory standards (UL, IEC 60601-1, 60601-2, etc.)
  • FPGA design experience, including familiarity with HDL (Verilog or VHDL)
  • Experience with IEC 62133 for rechargeable lithium-ion battery integration in portable devices
  • Experience managing Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) engagements, from quotations, lab selections, test plan / technical file development, on-site testing support, non-compliance resolution

Compensation

The contract rate for this position is $85.00 to $135.00 hourly. The final offer is determined by factors such as experience, location, skills, education, and market conditions.
