Summary:
- A development engineer improves product design or designs new products using engineering principles and achieves expertise in mechanical engineering.
- The engineer is responsible for designing mechanical product/subsystem release solutions.
- Build and test prototypes, write verification plans, perform verification/validation testing, write verification reports, and write specifications.
- Design new products and support product quality improvement for disposable products used in bioprocessing applications.
- Execute design to engineering standards, perform testing, and write verification/validation reports.
- Work within a team to deliver technical solutions.
- Collaborate with technical leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure technical deliverables meet product specifications.
- Seek mentoring to learn and solve problems.
- Lead design visualization efforts with 3D CAD models, exploring multiple design options.
- Develop engineering design concepts for components and disposable systems with demanding requirements for regulatory compliance, reliability, and cost.
- Participate in all phases of product redesign, including concept, prototype build, testing, documentation, supplier interfaces, and manufacturing introduction.
- Conduct reliability analysis of existing and new products using FMEA, risk management, and DFR.
- Develop innovative designs to meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
- Maintain and develop necessary competencies for the role.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics, or Biomedical Engineering.
- Knowledge of structural engineering, plastics molding, analysis, and verification of mechanical structures.
- Understanding of theories, concepts, and techniques in structural and/or dynamics analysis.
- Knowledge of industry and academic standards related to structural analysis, finite element analysis, and structural verification testing, especially in bioprocessing.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis, risk management, and FMEA.
- FMEA experience.
- Recent graduates from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) with a background in Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering.
