Hardware Development Engineer

As a Hardware Development Engineer within the RDPI team, you will design, develop, and deliver mechanical components and systems for Amazon's next generation of products. You will work with cross-functional teams to transform concepts into manufacturable designs that meet customer needs and business requirements. Key job responsibilities include delivering mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints.

You will create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies. Conducting engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is also part of your role. You will develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs against product requirements. Collaboration with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to integrate mechanical designs with other subsystems is required.

Identifying and resolving technical issues during development and production phases, documenting design decisions, test results, and engineering changes, supporting Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities, and mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement of design processes are also part of your responsibilities.

Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, 8+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience, and experience with prototyping, implementation, and scaling.

Preferred qualifications include experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume, a Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, and knowledge of Solid Works simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
