Quality Assurance Engineer (QAE)
The Quality Assurance Engineer (QAE) will support the deployment, commissioning, and troubleshooting of advanced robotic technologies. This role will focus on a trailer-unloading robotic solution being integrated into Amazon sortation centers. The QAE will work closely with engineering teams to ensure the robots are operating as needed, troubleshoot hardware as it pops up (mechanical and electrical) and software issues, collect and analyze data, and support successful product onboarding and deployment efforts.
This position requires a hands-on individual with mechanical, electrical, or robotics aptitude who is comfortable working in operational environments and traveling to deployment sites throughout the Northeast region.
Key Responsibilities- Execute test plans and test cases developed by Global Engineering Test Engineers.
- Operate, commission, and support testing of robotic systems in live sortation center environments.
- Collect, document, analyze, and report testing results and system performance data.
- Support debugging and troubleshooting activities alongside Engineering Leads and Test Engineers.
- Perform basic mechanical and electrical maintenance activities, including equipment inspections, nuts and bolts swap out, cable routing verification, charger connectivity, and system power-up/power-down procedures.
- Assist with inventory management and tracking of spare parts and test equipment.
- Monitor system performance and identify potential hardware, electrical, software, and integration issues.
- Collaborate with Test Engineers, Engineering Managers, and site personnel to resolve technical challenges.
- Interface with local Operations, Maintenance Engineering, Workplace Health & Safety, and other site stakeholders.
- Follow established safety procedures and testing protocols during deployment and validation activities.
- Support commissioning efforts for newly deployed robotic systems and assist with technology onboarding into the product development lifecycle.
- 0-2 years of relevant technical experience, or 3+ years of hands-on technical experience without a degree.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, robotics, or automation systems.
- Ability to learn and operate complex robotic equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting technical equipment and identifying root causes of issues.
- Comfortable working in warehouse, distribution, or industrial environments.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 20-30% of the time for extended site deployments.
- Exposure to robotics, automation, mechatronics, or industrial equipment.
- Familiarity with motor drivers, electrical wiring, control panels, sensors, batteries, and charging systems.
- Experience supporting testing, quality assurance, commissioning, or field service activities.
- Knowledge of data collection and reporting methodologies.
- Previous experience in logistics, warehouse automation, manufacturing, or engineering support environments.
- Primary deployment locations throughout the Northeast Coast region, including Massachusetts, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
- Initial training period of approximately 2-3 weeks, including hands-on shadowing with experienced team members.
- Frequent interaction with engineering, operations, maintenance, and safety teams in active fulfillment and sortation center environments.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, eager to learn emerging robotics technologies, and enjoys hands-on troubleshooting in dynamic operational environments. Success in this role requires strong technical curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to work closely with engineering teams to deliver reliable robotic solutions at scale.
