Join the dynamic Westbrook School Department as the Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning. As a district leader, the Assistant Superintendent will collaborate with the Superintendent of Schools and other district, school, and department leaders in advancing the mission and vision of the district and the success of all learners.
Responsibilities- Leading curriculum development, instruction, and assessment, including the district-wide focus on literacy and language development.
- Aligning professional development across the district and supporting principals and academic directors as instructional leaders.
- Coordinating assessment across the district.
- Overseeing the new Public PreK program.
- Overseeing technology and data management.
- Overseeing Professional Growth and Evaluation, Certification, Instructional Coaches, and Pre‑Service teachers and interns.
- Writing and managing academic grants, including ESEA, to support intervention and instructional improvement.
- Facilitating the Educational Programs Committee and family engagement initiatives.
- Collaborating with leadership in developing annual budgets.
- Representing and supporting the Superintendent of Schools, serving as their designee as needed.
- Be student‑focused, personable, and people‑oriented.
- Have a deep knowledge of and experience with teaching and learning.
- Have the ability to communicate data in effective ways.
- Write effectively for different audiences and purposes.
- Enjoy speaking publicly and presenting professional development workshops.
- Be collaborative, organized, creative, and innovative.
- Think systemically and with a future‑focus.
- Have experience in school communities with a rich diversity of language, culture, ability, income, and background.
- Advance the district's commitment to equity and opportunity and a Whole Child philosophy.
- Advanced degree (Master's, CAS, or Doctorate) in education.
- Certification as Assistant Superintendent.
- Minimum of 5 years of school leadership experience at the building or district level.
- Recent teaching experience and a history of facilitating professional development.
