Library Assistant (Part‑time, 25 hours/week)
We are hiring a part‑time Library Assistant at the Walker Memorial Library. This position plays an important role in providing excellent public service, supporting library operations, assisting patrons with technology and library resources, and contributing to library programs and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to library patrons at public service desks.
- Check materials in and out and assist with circulation services.
- Help patrons access library resources, technology, public computers, printing, scanning, and other services.
- Assist with reader's advisory, reference questions, and material requests.
- Support library programming and community outreach activities.
- Process holds, interlibrary loan requests, and new library materials.
- Maintain library collections through shelving, shelf‑reading, and organization.
- Assist with displays, promotional materials, social media, and library communications.
- Collect payments and perform basic cash‑handling duties.
- Participate in opening and closing procedures and other daily library operations.
Qualifications:
- One to three years of library or customer‑service experience.
- Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with integrated library systems, Sierra, MINERVA, or similar library software is highly desirable.
- Competitive salary range of $20.07–$29.47 per hour, based on relevant work experience and qualifications. Salary rates may be subject to increase upon ratification of the new collective bargaining agreement effective July 1, 2026.
- This position is covered by the General Unit collective bargaining agreement.
- Generous paid leave including vacation, sick, and 13 holidays per year.
- Retirement program of the Maine Public Employees Retirement Plan (Maine PERS) or defined 457 with matching up to 6%.
