Job Description & How to Apply Below

As a Metrology Engineer at IDEXX, you will join a friendly, talented, and highly collaborative team that takes pride in supporting one another and delivering high quality results. This role offers a balance of independent work and teamwork, giving you ownership of your day-to-day responsibilities while staying closely connected with engineering, quality, and operations partners. You can expect a work environment that provides both predictability and variety—clear workflows and expectations paired with exposure to different parts, measurements, and engineering challenges.

You'll be supported by engaged, approachable leadership that values learning, development, and continuous improvement, along with training opportunities to build skills with new and evolving measurement technologies.

In this role, you will support dimensional measurement and inspection activities that ensure the quality of raw materials used in the manufacture of IDEXX instruments. This position is ideal for an early‑career engineer who enjoys hands‑on technical work and wants to grow practical experience in metrology, measurement systems, and engineering specification interpretation.

In This Role, You Will:
  • Execute day‑to‑day inspection work driven by Jira tickets, following established workflows.
  • Perform gemba‑style evaluations to understand parts, processes, and measurement needs before inspection.
  • Use metrology equipment to measure raw material components used in IDEXX instruments.
  • Compare inspection results to engineering specifications and drawings to determine inspec vs. outofspec conditions.
  • Document measurement results clearly and communicate findings to engineering and quality partners.
  • Support engineers by providing measurement data that may inform tolerance definition or refinement.
  • Operate and maintain measurement equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Build foundational knowledge of metrology best practices, GD&T, and inspection fundamentals through hands‑on application.
What Do You Need to Succeed?
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Industrial, or related discipline) is required. Applied experience in your engineering discipline may be academic, project‑based, lab‑based, or internship‑related.
  • Hands‑on experience or exposure to metrology tools, such as Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), Micro‑Vu and Keyence.
  • Awareness or basic experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) is required; ability to interpret drawings is expected.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow inspection procedures accurately is required.
  • Basic understanding of engineering drawings and specifications is required.
  • Willingness to work onsite five days per week in Westbrook, ME is required, with occasional flexibility as needed.
  • Proficiency with standard computer tools (e.g., MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel) is required.
Benefits:
  • $75,000 - $85,000 base salary, negotiable depending on skills and experience
  • Yearly Bonus
  • 401K Matching
  • Discounted Stock Purchasing
  • Yearly Merit Increases
  • Safe location in a modern environment
  • Paid Time Off
