C. & Sons Landscaping is an established landscaping company that specializes in hardscaping, snow removal, and property maintenance serving commercial and residential clients throughout the region. We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of the company and support continued growth.

This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for managing accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, payroll oversight, compliance, and financial planning. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in construction, landscaping, or service‑based industries and understand job costing, seasonal operations, and labor‑heavy business environments.

Position Summary

The Financial Controller will oversee all day‑to‑day accounting and financial functions for Willie

C. & Sons Landscaping. This role will work directly with ownership and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls, support operational decision‑making, and improve financial processes across the company.

The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, analytical, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities during peak seasonal operations.

Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Operations
  • Manage all accounting functions including:
    • Accounts Payable
    • Accounts Receivable
    • General Ledger
    • Bank Reconciliations
    • Credit Card Reconciliations
    • Payroll Oversight
    • Journal Entries
    • Month‑End and Year‑End Closing
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain financial records and ensure accuracy of accounting data
  • Monitor company cash flow and daily banking activity
  • Develop and maintain internal accounting controls and procedures
  • Assist ownership with financial strategy, planning, and forecasting
Job Costing & Operational Financial Analysis
  • Oversee job costing for landscaping, hardscaping, irrigation, maintenance, and snow operations
  • Track labor costs, equipment costs, materials, subcontractor expenses, and profitability by division
  • Analyze operational performance and identify cost‑saving opportunities
  • Prepare and monitor departmental and company budgets
  • Produce financial reports and KPIs for leadership review
  • Assist management with pricing analysis and operational efficiency initiatives
Payroll & HR Financial Support
  • Oversee payroll processing and payroll compliance
  • Review employee deductions, benefits, garnishments, and PTO tracking
  • Coordinate with HR regarding employee compensation changes and onboarding/payroll setup
  • Assist with workers’ compensation reporting and insurance audits
  • Support certified payroll or prevailing wage reporting if applicable
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
  • Coordinate with external CPA firms, auditors, and tax professionals
  • Oversee sales tax filings, payroll tax reporting, and annual filings
  • Manage annual financial audits and insurance audits
  • Maintain compliance with company financial policies and procedures
Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Supervise accounting and administrative personnel as needed
  • Improve accounting workflows and reporting systems
  • Develop scalable financial processes to support company growth
  • Participate in leadership meetings and provide financial insight to department managers
  • Assist ownership with strategic business decisions, capital purchases, and growth planning
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting or financial management experience required
  • Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior‑level accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in landscaping, construction, contracting, or field service industries strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Financial reporting
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Cash flow management
    • Job costing
    • Payroll administration
    • Internal controls
  • Experience with accounting and payroll software
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • CPA designation is a plus but not required
