Oncology Nurse Navigator – Breast Oncology
New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking a full‑time, 32‑hour Breast Oncology Nurse Navigator to work at our Westbrook office. The Nurse Navigator helps patients and families navigate the health‑care continuum, provides counseling, and coordinates care with physicians, infusion nurses, and other team members.

- Point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to assist with scheduling and coordination of care.
- Coordinate appointments with providers to ensure timely delivery of diagnostic and treatment services, and ensure appropriate medical records are available.
- Facilitate linkages to follow‑up services and conduct patient assessments.
- Work closely with the Research Department to provide access to clinical trials.
- Maintain communication with patients, survivors, families, and health‑care providers to monitor patient satisfaction.
- Receive patient telephone calls and intervene appropriately for patients’ specific needs in a timely manner; alert the physician when intervention is required.
- Follow up with patients by telephone to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and to evaluate changing or uncertain clinical situations.
- Arrange language translation and/or interpretation services as needed.
- Collaborate with Financial Advocates to facilitate financial support for all treatment modalities.
- Maintain patient‑care standards, ensuring assessment, treatment, and documentation are completed safely and effectively.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences, in‑services, continuing education, national and regional professional organizations, and community programs specific to oncology and hematology.
- Incorporate evidence‑based research into clinical practice and provide recommendations on practice policies and processes to directors.
- Coordinate patient‑care responsibilities within the scope of the practice for licensed and unlicensed health‑care providers.
- Assist with arrangement of transportation if needed.
- Build partnerships with local agencies and groups for referrals to services and survivor support groups.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing required; licensed nurse in the State of Maine required.
- Minimum two years nursing professional experience; hematology/oncology experience preferred.
- OCN required within one year of hire (or when eligible based on ONCC criteria).
- ONS Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Certification required within six months of hire.
- AONN required within two years of hire.
